Welcome to Pen and Ink, a blog about writing. In the world of modern writing, it seems anything goes. Because of the power of the internet and the ease of modern publishing, many writers that never would have been published in the past now have a voice. The result is that the literary world is filled with lots of terrible writing. Modern writing is whatever you want it to be, no matter how stylistically incorrect or substance-less it may be. After all, it is genuine, right? Not so.

Words have meaning and, properly used, they can have great power. The great writers of the past understood that. I do not believe that writing is bad because it is modern; many of my favorite poets and authors are from the modern era. However, it is my conviction that there is a clear line between good and bad writing, and that good writing is not a literary free for all. My goal is to introduce; or re-introduce; the reader to the great authors of years gone by, as well as modern authors.

I will attempt to share the joy of words by posting great poems, short stories, book recommendations and reviews, articles, essays, and more. I hope that as a result of reading this blog you will gain enjoyment as well as a desire to take up your own pen and write. Most importantly, I would that you come to love words, for a good writer, as well as a good reader, must first and foremost love words.
